Solidarity Statement with Ghanaian LGBTQ+ Siblings

29 Feb 2024, Posted by INEND in INEND

We stand in unwavering solidarity with our LGBTQ+ siblings in Ghana in the face of the deeply concerning and oppressive Passing and approval of the “Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Act 2024” by the Ghanaian parliament on 28th February 2024.

We vehemently condemn the enactment of this discriminatory legislation, which not only violates the fundamental human rights of LGBTQ+ individuals but also perpetuates systemic injustice and intolerance in Ghana.

This regressive bill criminalizes the mere existence and expression of LGBTQ+ identities, further marginalizing an already vulnerable community and fostering a climate of fear and persecution. Such legislation not only undermines the principles of equality and dignity but also obstructs the path toward social progress and inclusivity.

To our Ghanaian LGBTQ+ siblings, we want you to know that you are not alone. We stand with you in your struggle for equality, dignity, and freedom. Your identities are valid, your voices matter, and your rights are non-negotiable.

We call upon Ghanaian  President  Nana Akufo-Addo to NOT assent to this bill as it undermines international human rights law to protect the rights of all individuals, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity.

We urge individuals, organizations, and governments worldwide to join us in condemning this legislation and advocating for the rights and dignity of LGBTQ+ people in Ghana and beyond.
