Covid-19 has significantly affected the lives of all across the globe, without care for gender, race, color.
The lives of LGBTQIA persons in Kenya, and Africa at large, have been negatively impacted by COVID 19 ranging from a marked increase in Gender-Based Violence, evictions from their homes and communities, to arrests and illegal detentions of LGBQ and Trans individuals. It has become more important than ever to continue addressing the cultural and political impetus for the marked lack of policy actions by the government to ensure non-discrimination of LGBTQIA persons. SOGIE-SC citizenry and refugees continue to fear physical abuse, homelessness, poverty, loneliness, and mental anguish because state agencies insist on actively perpetuating homophobia, intersex phobia, and transphobia via policy and legislative actions.
Initiative for Equality and Non Discrimination (INEND) is a local nonprofit organization that researches strategies for equality and acceptance in the coast region of Kenya and shares experiences with other stakeholders in an effort to contribute towards tolerance, non-discrimination and acceptance of gender and sexual minorities.
